Book Review: Freelance Business BootCamp – The eBook

December 12th, 2014 · 2 Comments

Get paid more money for your writing! Freelance Business Bootcamp - the eBook

Most freelance writers don’t come from a business background. That can hurt you because when you freelance you’re basically running a business.

Even if you do come from a business background, chances are good that you don’t know what you need to know about running a business. I have a business degree, and I still had a lot to learn when I started freelancing.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were a resource designed to offer the information that freelancers need to know?

Well, now there is. In this post, I take a closer look at Freelance Business Bootcamp – The eBook (Affiliate link, I receive a small fee for each purchase) by Carol Tice and Neil Tortorella.

Disclosures: I am an affiliate for the Freelance Writer’s Den and the ebook. This post has affiliate links. I received a copy of this ebook through my membership in the Freelance Writer’s Den. I was not paid to write this post and the post reflects my honest opinion. I have previously worked on an ebook and webinar with Carol Tice.

Who Should Read This Book

The ebook was really helpful. With over 100 pages of practical tips and advice, it provides a definite advantage to new writers.

In fact, when combined with the ebook that Carol and I wrote, you’ll get much of what you need to know to succeed. Our book explains how to get started as a writer and this new book answers business questions.

This ebook is not just for new writers though. This ebook belongs in your reference library if you:

  • Currently run a freelance writing business
  • Are thinking of running a freelance writing business
  • Own a business that hires freelance writers on a regular basis
  • Own another type of freelancing business

I wish I’d had this information when I started freelancing. It would have made getting started a lot easier.

My Favorite Sections

Some sections of this book were more interesting than others. Here are the sections I liked the most:

  • Chapter 2: How to Negotiate Great Rates. While I’ve negotiated rates for many years now, it’s easy to forget some of the tactics that work. In this chapter, you get 12 solid negotiating tips. I know I’ll come back to this section again and again.
  • Chapter 3: Contracts 101. I always use a contract now, but the list of common contract clauses in this chapter has me re-examining my standard contract to see if I’ve missed anything.

Freelancers will also learn from the other chapters:

  • Chapter 1: How to Set Up Your Freelance Business. Includes tips on how to write a business plan.
  • Chapter 4: How to Manage Clients and Projects for Profit. You need a good system to stay on schedule.

The prologue has some good information too, so don’t skip it. 😉

The Bottom Line

If you’re a freelance writer, you need to know the information contained in this book. In fact, you can’t afford not to have this ebook.

At less than $10.00, Freelance Business Bootcamp – The eBook (Affiliate link, I receive a small fee for each purchase) is a business bargain. Get it now.

Your Turn

Have you read this ebook? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
