Where Are You From?

December 4th, 2007 · 13 Comments

I found an interesting quiz over at Journey of Words. It has more to do with words than with being a writer.

Of course, being the lover of words and quizzes that I am, I had to take the quiz and share my results here.

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The Midland

“You have a Midland accent” is just another way of saying “you don’t have an accent.” You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Philadelphia

North Central

The Inland North

The South

The West

Boston

The Northeast

If you take the quiz, leave a comment and let me know how it turned out. (It should be funny to see how it turns out for all of you that aren’t even from the U.S.)

    Oh God this is funny…

What American accent do you have? Your Result: North Central “North Central” is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw “Fargo” you probably didn’t think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.The Inland North The Midland The West Boston The Northeast Philadelphia The South What American accent do you have?Quiz Created on GoToQuiz

It says, “Outsiders must mistake you for Canadian a lot…”

I should hope so 😉 Vive le Canada!

That is funny. It would be a shame if you were mistaken for a Canadian. (Being from Canada, and all.) 😉

Wow, I got Inland North — not even close to my Jersey girl roots!

    Thanks for stopping by…

I was just told today that because I speak “midland” that I have the “honor” of being the caller at our schools spelling bee next week. You know…the one person in Georgia without an accent. 🙂

    Hi Lesly!

That’s weird. Do you know people from the North?

  • 6 Laura // Dec 4, 2007 at

    Congratulations Eric!

I remember when I first moved to the South(west) it took me a while before I could fully understand everybody.

Hi Laura! I got “The Midland” too. I guess over the years I’ve learned a more “generic” speech pattern, even though when I write at the Middle Zone I tend to write more “Texan”. Not that I’m puttin’ on airs or anything… 🙂

I’ve never been to the U.S.
I was born & bred in England U.K.
I still live in the U.K
but apparantly I speak with an accent from Conneticut or NYC and a strong one at that lol

I tried this quiz and I came out with “Inland North.” That’s pretty close so it’s works!

I, too, love to play with words.

    Hi, Laura!

My quiz hit the nail right on the head: Northeast! (New York to be exact.) It wasn’t too surprising, though, because I’ve always noticed a BIG difference between all those different vowel sounds! LOL!

    Great quiz!

Hi Robert, Amanda, Robyn, and Jeanne!

Hmmm! It seems this quiz is very accurate for some people, but doesn’t quite know how to handle Non U.S. accents.

Amanda, I’m sure that, if we heard you speak, we wouldn’t think that you were from NYC.

I got the Midland. I was born in NY and raised in VA. Fokes tawk like New Yawk, but I only got in in some words. Heavy NY accents think I’m from TX. Seriously. And heavy TX accents think I’m from NY.

    Hi Chris!

Wow! It sound like you’ve lived all over.
