My Favorite Writing Quotes

I’m snowed under this week.

Figuratively, not literally – I’m in Texas and it’s supposed to be over 70 degrees today, so it’s not actually snowing here.

I am buried in work, though. So, I decided to participate in the You Are a Part of My Life meme. The meme challenges each blogger to:

Post a quote that speaks from and to your heart and dedicate it to at least three other bloggers.

I’ll share not one, but three, of my favorite quotes about writers:

It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writerE. B. White

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it. C. S. Lewis

If you don’t have the time to read, you don’t have the time or the tools to write.Stephen King

Feel free to say what you think about the quotes. I’ll come back later and tell you why I like them.

Mig already picked Lillie and Yvonne to dedicate her post to, so I won’t pick them again (although they both deserve to be chosen). It’s hard to choose just three bloggers to dedicate the post to (because there should be so many more), but I would have to pick Vivienne, Matt, and Nikki.

Thank you for thinking about me, Laura.

Including C.S. Lewis among the three got my attention. He is my favorite Christian writer, one who inspires me with my WordJourney blog (in particular).

E.B. White challenges me to be friendly even under a writing burden and Stephen King underscores what I firmly believe: you got to read in order to write and write well.

    Good picks, all three!

Very nice quotes, Laura. I like the Stephen King one the most – he is one of my favorite authors. I “eat and sleep” Stephen King – basically the only times when I read something other than blogs.

Great quotes, Laura. And thanks for mentioning me. Like you, I have been snowed under and haven’t posted my own in response to Mig’s, but it’s on my to-do list!

Love the quotes you’ve chosen, Laura! They’re all so true!

P.S. Glad to hear from you ladies that I’m not the only one who’s snowed under! 🙂

Thanks… Laura. The first quote that come to my mind is “When words are scarce they are seldom spent in vain” by William Shakespeare. Made me more conscious when writing. 🙂

Hi Matt, Mihaela, Lillie, Jeanne, Vivienne!

Well, it took me a bit longer to come back than I anticipated.

Here’s why I picked the quotes:

I loved quote number one not only because it’s from the end of one of my favorite children’s novels (Charlotte’s Web), but because finding writing friends does indeed seem to be rare.

I loved the second one, not only because it is from one of my favorite authors, but because I’m big believer in truthful communication. I believe the truth will rise to the top of any conversation.

Finally, I loved the third one because I think that all writers start as readers.
